This newly created role will be a member of the executive leadership team, the senior most technology and operations leader, and report to and collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer in the development of strategic goals for operational efficiency and increased productivity across the firm.  The CTO will provide vision and leadership to develop and implement operations and information technology initiatives and innovation that align and streamline NorthRock’s strategy and mission. Executive will lead the enhancement of technology and elevate the technology discussion to play a leading role in the execution of employee development and execution of process/operational excellence.

This is a transformational role as the organization seeks to increase its pace of innovation and employee adoption by bringing together the Information Technology and Operations functions under one executive leader.  The CTO will partner with business leaders to define and deliver an IT and process systems road map that continually drives critical business initiatives to enable the company’s current and future business needs.  Candidate will provide vision and leadership to the planning, deployment and training of operational workflows, objectives, and best practices that promote efficiency and profitability across all departments. 

The new executive will be a strategic leader who can build on the existing technology and business strategy to provide new capabilities for employees and clients.  They will be bringing both a business and technology focus, strong relationship management skills and will help make technology and operations a critical component of NorthRock’s strategy and operational excellence.


Candidate will transform and align the organization through its people to drive for improvement in a new direction leveraging technology, systems, and workflows.  As an executive leader of the firm, ideal candidate will create a culture of professional learning and development that engages colleagues to discover and understand technology to address issues and maintain performance efficiency.

As an advisor to the CEO, this position requires more than an ability to complete directives provided by the CEO, it demands a thoughtful partner capable and willing to give feedback where needed. 

This role is also responsible for supervising and supporting the Operations Department (a dozen or so Associates responsible for managing the firm’s software systems, applications, client reporting deliverables, and operational processes).

Executive will work with business leaders, associates, and consultants to articulate the desired future state of technology applications and capabilities.

  • Communicate a clear, completing vision and mobilize others to adopt, if not initiative, the required change
  • With the use of internal tools, analyze current operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement when necessary
  • Expand the use of Salesforce and other software programs across all client servicing departments
  • Develop, implement, and monitor day to day operational systems and processes that provide visibility into goals, progress, and obstacles
  • Partner with leaders to help achieve their business objectives by implementing new technologies, capabilities, and workflows
  • Lead an effective technology governance process where all key stakeholders are brought into the decision-making process, and all ideas are brought forward for discussion
  • Maintain an entrepreneurial approach while driving prioritization by aligning business goals with technology and operations resources: identifying initiatives that are the higher value to the business and gain support for those initiatives
  • Continuously monitor other company’s digital innovation strategies and marketplace trends, and enhance NorthRock strategy accordingly
  • Work with business units to collaborate on process strategies in line with the business
  • Analyze the current platforms/frameworks compared to current and future trends
  • Leading and mentoring the technical teams, as well as building out teams for growth
  • Resource and project estimation including resource allocation and deadlines, tracking projects and timelines vs. budget
  • Create and manage to annual budget and quarterly financial forecasts (and related capacity plans) that are aligned with the needs of the business.  Includes projects, support work, overhead, and capital expenditures
  • Collaborate with other business function leaders to set overall IT direction and deliver projects that span business areas in a cost-effective way that complies with industry standards and processes
  • Hire, organize, train, develop, and motivate department staff for high productivity
  • Arranges mentoring to avoid single points of failure
  • Drive the development and communication of enterprise platform standards for all domains: operations, infrastructure, data, applications, development, and work with supporting groups or consultants to establish supporting best practices that implement and secure the architectural components
  • Interact with key stakeholders and functional owners of the business partner organizations in defining key technology priorities and projects, enabling business improvement, and solving problems
  • Works effectively with business stakeholders (Operations, Finance, Business Development, Marketing, HR, and Advice Teams) to ensure that all technical solutions are aligned with business needs
  • Team with Compliance to ensure adherence to information security, corporate governance, enterprise architecture and process standards


  • Experience serving on executive leadership team or facilitating board-level engagement
  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or business
  • A master’s degree, preferably, in a technical discipline or business discipline
  • Successful candidates will combine rigorous service acumen across many of the following areas, along with impressive depth in one or two: Salesforce, Black Diamond, project management, agile,  data analytics, scrum, financial reporting, technology development, training and development
  • Proven success in increasing user adoption or employee professional development  
  • Experience in the financial services industry
  • Record of success in improving processes and leading department growth
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle and prioritize simultaneous requests, and manage lateral and upwards
  • Architect experience with a CRM database (e.g., Salesforce, Tamarack)
  • Emotional maturity, professional mindset, and the utmost discretion
  • Minimum of 10 years related experience being a high achiever with a reputation for being a rockstar that gets things done as an operations leader
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office and Apple iOS
  • United States work authorization
